Nandkishor Mahajan of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won Jalgaon Local Authorities' Constituency Legislative Council election held on June 18,and margin is so huge that opposition side will definitely have some explaining to do.
Counting showed Mahajan secured 95% of total votes cast, which came to 582 votes . That is not small thing ah,especially in election where every local body vote matters and numbers usually tell real mood inside alliances.
On other side, candidate from Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition managed to get only 17 votes . And when gap is 582 votes versus 17 votes,it stops looking like normal defeat and starts looking like complete breakdown of coordination.
Out of 630 eligible voters,616 participated in election process . So turnout was also very high . Counting happened at District Collector's office, and five votes were declared invalid, but even with that,Mahajan's victory was never really in doubt .
Few things standing out clearly in this result:
- 616 out of 630 eligible voters cast their ballots.
- Mahajan got 582 votes while MVA candidate got only 17 votes.
- Mahajan credited unity of Mahayuti and support of party and allies.
After result was announced,Mahajan thanked administration for conducting transparent election process . He also spoke about unity among Mahayuti alliance, and said support from Grand Alliance in Jalgaon helped make this win so decisive.
BJP MLA Mangesh Chavan also reacted strongly, saying this kind of support for Mahajan shows MVA leaders failed to keep their voter base and unity together . And tbh, when numbers fall this badly, that argument will become very difficult for opposition to ignore.
BJP workers celebrated this win with lot of enthusiasm, seeing it as reinforcement of their political strategy in Maharashtra . Party side is also reading result as strong message to opposition and as sign of support for BJP governance and leadership, particularly under Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis .
But politics never stays fixed for long . This victory may help BJP strengthen its influence before upcoming elections, but question is whether MVA treats this as warning bell now,or just another bad day in Jalgaon…
