This Varanasi Cantonment railway station story is honestly so relatable for anyone who has travelled by train and eaten from station vendors . One student from Bihar,Pintu Kumar, thought he was buying chole bhature for ₹20,but by end of meal he was allegedly asked to pay ₹120 .
And this is where whole thing became viral .
As per report, vendor had advertised plate of chole bhature for just ₹20 . But after Kumar finished eating,he was shocked when bill suddenly became ₹120 . Not small difference ah,six times amount .
Kumar did not just argue and leave. He went straight to police posted at railway station . After that, police confronted vendor and pressure was put to return extra money. That quick action solved his immediate problem, but also exposed something many passengers keep complaining about quietly.
Few things standing out clearly in this case:
- Pintu Kumar was allegedly charged ₹120 after ₹20 price was shown.
- Police intervention helped him get refund from vendor.
- Viral video started discussion about overcharging at railway stations.
In video,Kumar can be heard saying,"₹20 ka chole bhature bolkar chhah piece diye aur ₹120 le liya," and honestly, that one line explains frustration better than any long complaint . You feel cheated because price shown first and price demanded later are totally different .
And reports say students from Bihar coming for examinations have faced similar overpricing tactics too. This part is even more uncomfortable because students travelling for exams are already under stress, money is limited and then such surprise charges happen at station.
Social media reaction was mixed only . Many people supported Kumar and asked for stricter checking of vendors. But some also questioned whether ₹20 for 6 bhature even makes sense, with comments like "20 rs me kon khila raha 6 bhature 2026 me?"
But still, main issue is not whether ₹20 sounds low or not. If price is shown, customer should know clearly what he is paying before eating . Otherwise it becomes trap-like situation.
And railway stations across India already have this reputation where passengers are rushed, hungry and confused,so vendors can easily take advantage . One viral video got attention this time, but how many such small overcharging fights happen daily without camera…
