One huge seizure has now come from Assam's Cachar district, and honestly,8,764 kg of poppy seeds is not small thing ah . Joint operation by Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and Assam Rifles on June 21, 2026 has again put spotlight on how serious trafficking routes in this region have become .
And this was not random checking also. Officials acted after specific intelligence inputs about illegal movement of narcotics in area, which has already been known for cross-border drug trafficking activities . That part itself says lot about how organised these networks can be.
Operation happened along Silchar Bypass Road, where authorities intercepted one consignment suspected of carrying illicit substances . After inspection, team reportedly found huge quantity of poppy seeds valued at approximately ₹1.31 crore .
Two residents of Silchar were apprehended in connection with case . A Tata truck used for transporting poppy seeds was also confiscated, and seized material has now been transferred to DRI for further investigation .
Few things standing out clearly in this case:
- 8,764 kg of poppy seeds were seized in Assam's Cachar district on June 21,2026 .
- Seized poppy seeds were valued at approximately ₹1.31 crore .
- Two residents of Silchar were apprehended and Tata truck was confiscated.
And tbh, this kind of case shows why agencies keep focusing so much on Northeast India routes . Cachar district has seen several such operations in recent years, and every seizure makes same point again — supply chains are not disappearing easily.
DRI and Assam Rifles have been working together in ongoing operations to disrupt and dismantle contraband trafficking networks . But at same time, when such large quantities are moving, question also comes about how many consignments pass through before one gets caught .
And honestly, drug trafficking is not just police file matter only . It affects local communities, young people, families and entire social environment around these routes . One truck seized is good, but network behind it is bigger worry.
Authorities will now investigate further, but this seizure again leaves uncomfortable thought hanging… if 8,764 kg was caught on one route, what else is still moving quietly elsewhere…
