Just saw this video on X showing U.S. military blowing up some boat in Pacific Ocean . boat just erupts into flames, and apparently three people died. This is getting really intense .
And this is not some random incident ah . It happened on June 18, 2026,and it’s part of this whole campaign by Trump administration against what they are calling "narcoterrorists" in Latin America.
The U.S . Southern Command said the boat was on a known smuggling route . But they also didn't give any concrete proof that it was actually carrying drugs. So they just hit it based on its location? That part is not clear.
And tbh, this is where things get really uncomfortable.
This is apparently happening for some time now . Since early September,at least 211 people have been killed in these kinds of strikes. That is a huge number of people, and it seems like this whole thing is escalating very fast .
Few things standing out from this whole situation:
- Trump administration is now saying they are in an "armed conflict" with these drug cartels.
- Legal experts and even some lawmakers are raising serious questions about legality of these strikes.
- Senators are demanding the Pentagon release the unedited videos to show what really happened.
But is this strategy even working? Critics are pointing out that most of fentanyl, which is the big problem in U.S.,is coming overland from Mexico . chemicals for it are from China and India. So hitting boats in the ocean might not even be touching main supply chain.
And there was another incident in September that was very disturbing . U.S. military hit one boat, and then two survivors were killed in a second strike . White House called it self-defense,but many legal scholars are saying targeting survivors could be a violation of international law .
Now Pentagon's inspector general is going to check if military is following its own rules, the Joint Targeting Cycle framework . But this check won't even look at bigger legal problem of whether these strikes should be happening at all. So it feels like they are avoiding the main question rn.
So you have this aggressive military action happening, but so many questions about its legality, its effectiveness, and the transparency of it all . It feels like a very messy line is being crossed between law enforcement and actual warfare…
