Taiwan is again getting into serious military preparation mode,and honestly,this timing says lot about pressure building around island . Defence Ministry has now said it will hold five-day military readiness drill starting June 22,2026 .
This drill is called "Immediate Combat Readiness Exercise" and it will run till June 26 . Not just regular parade-style training,this one is being pushed as more real-world kind of simulation,where troops are expected to practice what may actually happen if tensions suddenly turn into conflict .
And main backdrop is China only . China has consistently claimed Taiwan as part of its territory,and Taiwan is clearly preparing for possibility that regular military pressure could escalate into something far more dangerous.
Defence Ministry says goal is to train military units at all levels to adjust to combat realities and prepare for rapid deployment scenarios . Basically,less textbook drill,more “what if things happen fast” kind of preparation.
Few things standing out in this drill:
- Enhanced joint operations to strengthen command and control among different military branches.
- Use of actual equipment,with troops training using real military assets in real-time environments.
- Improved readiness transitions,meaning faster shift from peacetime operations to wartime readiness.
And tbh,same day announcement came,China also sent 21 military aircraft near Taiwan,including J-16 fighters and KJ-500 early warning aircraft . Taiwan's Defence Ministry described it as part of China's long-distance training activities over open seas.
Taiwan responded by mobilizing its own military forces under standard protocols . This has almost become pattern now,but still,21 aircraft near Taiwan is not small thing ah,especially when readiness drill is also being announced same time.
Earlier this month,Taiwan had also fired new U.S.-made HIMARS rocket system into Taiwan Strait,showing it wants to send clear message about defence readiness . And annual Han Kuang war games,which are Taiwan's main military exercise,are scheduled for August.
But bigger question is how long this cycle keeps going like this . One side sends aircraft,other side mobilizes,then bigger drills,then sharper weapons display… and somewhere in between,one mistake can change everything…
