So West Bengal politics is seeing some major drama again . Ritabrata Banerjee, who was earlier with Trinamool Congress, just made a huge move.
He showed up at West Bengal Assembly on June 3,2026 with letters of support from 59 MLAs . This is basically him and his faction claiming to be the main opposition now, directly challenging Mamata Banerjee and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee's leadership.
Ritabrata arrived around 10:30 AM and he was not alone . Several other legislators who signed the new resolution were with him. Apparently another expelled MLA,Sandipan Saha,is also supposed to arrive soon.
And this whole thing feels very planned . One female MLA even told reporters that a meeting would happen right after Saha's arrival to decide their next steps and talk to media.
And honestly, this is where things get really personal ah.
The whole thing seems to have exploded after some specific events. Ritabrata has been openly criticising Abhishek Banerjee's leadership style for a while.
Few key points from this whole mess:
- Ritabrata openly questioned Abhishek's leadership after he asked for Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) protection following an assault .
- Both Ritabrata and Sandipan were officially suspended from Trinamool Congress on June 1,2026.
- Criminal Investigation Department (CID) probe was started over some signature discrepancies after the two MLAs raised concerns.
Ritabrata's criticism got even sharper when he questioned Abhishek's claim of being a mass leader . He pointed out how it looks odd for someone to ask for security after being away from public eye for long time, especially after the party's recent election loss.
But it doesn't stop there . He also accused Abhishek of managing party like some corporate office, saying he relies too much on the Indian Police Action Committee (I-PAC). That's a very serious allegation against the party's way of working .
The whole political atmosphere in West Bengal is very tense rn . It feels like both sides are preparing for big confrontation and nobody knows how it will end.
With so many MLAs switching sides, you have to wonder what this means for Trinamool Congress long term . Is this start of a bigger split…
