Madhya Pradesh Faces 6-Day Delay in Monsoon; Rain and Thunderstorm Alerts Issued

The southwest monsoon in Madhya Pradesh has been delayed by six days, now expected to arrive by June 25, according to the India Meteorological Department. In the meantime, pre-monsoon activities including rain and thunderstorms are forecasted for several districts, including Indore and Gwalior. The delay has led to significant rainfall deficits across the state, particularly affecting eastern regions. Currently, 45 out of 55 districts are facing inadequate rainfall, raising concerns about the agricultural sector's health.

Madhya Pradesh Faces 6-Day Delay in Monsoon; Rain and Thunderstorm Alerts Issued

Key Takeaways

  • Monsoon delayed by 6 days in Madhya Pradesh
  • 37 districts under rain and thunderstorm alert
  • 45 districts facing significant rainfall deficit

When India Meteorological Department (IMD) says southwest monsoon arrival is delayed by six days and now expected around June 25,2026,people will obviously start getting worried.

Farmers especially must be watching sky every day only . Usually monsoon enters Madhya Pradesh around June 15,but on June 21,IMD said this year it has been stuck over Telangana since June 8 . That one hold-up has pushed whole movement badly.

Now IMD is expecting monsoon to reach Chhattisgarh by June 23 . If it keeps same pace,it may enter Madhya Pradesh two days later . Sounds simple on paper, but for people dealing with heat, dry fields and uncertain rain, this waiting period feels much longer.

And at same time,pre-monsoon drama is not stopping . Rain and thunderstorms are still predicted across state, and alerts have been issued for thunderstorms in 37 districts, including Indore and Gwalior . So it is not like weather is calm either.

Few things standing out clearly rn:

  • Rainfall deficit affects 45 districts — Out of 55 districts,45 are facing lack of rainfall.
  • Temperature concerns in key cities — Bhopal and Indore may see 40°C to 43°C.
  • Pre-monsoon activity continues — Rain and thunderstorms are forecasted as monsoon comes closer.

The worrying part is eastern Madhya Pradesh . Rainfall there is nearly 65% below normal levels, and overall state has seen 46% less rainfall than normal this June . Jabalpur and Rewa divisions are facing worst shortages, which is not small thing ah.

Alirajpur has not recorded any rainfall this season, while Bhopal has received highest rainfall so far, nearly four inches . That difference itself shows how uneven this whole pre-monsoon phase has become across Madhya Pradesh.

For June 22,IMD has forecast thunderstorms with winds of 35-40 kmph across affected districts . But cities like Bhopal and Indore are still likely to face hot conditions,so people may get thunderstorm alerts and heat stress together.

By June 23,rain belt is expected to slowly shift toward central and western parts of state, and that could bring some relief to dry areas . But till actual monsoon enters properly, this whole situation is still hanging in air…
