Just read one study from England about HPV vaccine and honestly, the results are just mind-blowing . This is kind of science news that really gives you some hope.
This research was led by Professor Peter Sasieni from Queen Mary University of London . And what they found is huge . Girls who got vaccinated at ages 12 to 13 now have almost zero chance of dying from cervical cancer before they turn 30.
And the numbers are actually quite something . Since vaccine started in 2008,around 200 lives have been saved . For first time ever, between 2020 and 2024,there were no cervical cancer deaths recorded in women aged 20 to 24 . Zero. Not small thing ah.
Without this vaccination program, experts were expecting around 23 deaths in that same age group . So you can see direct impact right there.
But here is where things get a bit concerning.
Cancer Research UK is warning that vaccination rates are not high enough . Michelle Mitchell, the chief executive, said the vaccine is clearly working but we need to do more to get vaccination rates up across country .
Few key things to know from this report:
- 200 lives saved — due to the introduction of the HPV vaccine since 2008.
- Zero deaths recorded — for first time in women aged 20-24 from 2020 to 2024 .
- Vaccination rates below target — only 76% of girls vaccinated by age 15,below the 90% WHO recommendation.
And then you hear personal stories like Alexandra Legg's . She was diagnosed with cervical cancer at 30,just before she would have been eligible for vaccine. She talks about how different her life could have been. Her daughter,Ivy,is a reminder of the future generations we can protect .
This whole thing feels like we have miracle solution in our hands, but we're not using it to its full potential . HPV virus causes 99% of these cancers, and we have a way to stop it .
Experts are saying deaths will keep going down, which is great news obviously . But the entire focus is shifting to making sure vaccination rates are high .
It just makes you wonder… we have proof that it saves lives,we can see the numbers clearly,so why is it still so hard to get everyone protected…
