This CCTV footage from Edinburgh is honestly disturbing to even read about,because whole thing sounds like chaos breaking out in middle of normal city life . BBC obtained footage showing moments before suspect was arrested on June 21, 2026,and it is not small thing ah.
And according to report,a topless man was seen driving erratically before abandoning his vehicle and then attacking people with two large knives . Victims reportedly included a black man and a delivery rider,along with others caught in this violent string of incidents.
What makes it even more worrying is that police are treating events as hate crimes and have also invoked counter-terrorism measures . Since attacks are suspected anti-Muslim attacks across Edinburgh,that angle is obviously making community fear much deeper.
The chaotic scenes reportedly began soon after suspect arrived on Leith Walk . CCTV shows him swerving car onto street,before confronting one man who had just got off a tram . Eyewitnesses described him as erratic,and footage apparently shows him smoking while chasing people and brandishing knives .
And tbh,this is where it feels even more unreal . Police reached shortly after attacks started and detained man approximately eight minutes after he first pulled up in area . Eight minutes can sound short later,but for people running from someone with two large knives,it must have felt endless .
Few facts standing out in this case:

- Four individuals required hospital treatment,but none of injuries are believed to be life-threatening .
- Victims included two men aged 22 who had just attended prayers at Broomhouse Mosque,along with others aged 24,27,and 39.
But community reaction is also very telling here . Local residents and community leaders have expressed shock and concern,saying this kind of violence goes against values of Edinburgh,a city known for inclusivity . Aaquil Hussain and other prominent figures have urged action against extremism.
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and other officials also condemned violence publicly,calling for united front against extremism in all forms . And yes,statements matter,but people living there rn will probably be thinking more about safety outside mosque,tram stop,workplace,street corner… everywhere.
And that is uncomfortable part . When suspected hate attacks happen in such random public spaces,it does not just injure five people,it shakes confidence of whole community .
