This Australia cocaine seizure is honestly sounding like something from crime series, but it is real case only . Australian Federal Police announced they found 2.7 metric tons (3 tons) of cocaine at property in Londonderry,on outskirts of Sydney, and scale of it is not small ah.
Operation happened on June 19 ,and police are calling it Australia's largest cocaine seizure to date . Street value is estimated at around 816 million Australian dollars (approximately $572 million),which is just insane amount when you think about how much drug money was moving here .
What makes this more disturbing is hiding method . Drugs were reportedly concealed in plastic tubs buried beneath three shipping containers with false floors . That is not random smuggling, this looks like proper planning by people who know how to move huge quantities without getting noticed .
And then two men, aged 21 and 25,were arrested in connection with this bust . They are facing serious charges for possessing a commercial quantity of an illicit substance, and if convicted, they could face life sentences.
Few things standing out clearly here:
- 2.7 metric tons (3 tons) of cocaine found buried in Londonderry.
- Suspected links to a Sydney crime group .
- Australia remains attractive for traffickers because cocaine prices are very high .
This seizure has now crossed previous record of 2.34 metric tons (2.58 tons) of cocaine intercepted in 2024 from a fishing vessel near K'gari . And tbh, when records are getting broken like this,it says something worrying about scale of trafficking networks targeting Australia.
Authorities believe cocaine discovered in Sydney was transported by criminal syndicate from its landing point at Midge Point,in Queensland . From there,it was allegedly moved by road around 1,800 kilometers (1,100 miles) to reach capital of New South Wales . That is huge logistical run,not some small local deal.
Investigators also suspect this shipment may be connected to earlier seizures of cocaine and methamphetamine, where six individuals have already been charged . So this case may be one part of much bigger chain that police are still trying to untangle .
And at same time,Australian Federal Police are clearly worried about organized crime groups using Australia's massive coastline and high demand for cocaine . When buyers are paying some of highest prices globally, traffickers will keep trying new routes, new hiding methods, new people…
But after seizure this big, real question is how many shipments already slipped through before this one got caught…
