This AMMA resignation story honestly feels like one of those moments where everyone knew something was wrong inside,but still shock comes when whole thing finally breaks open . 17-member women leadership stepping down from Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes is not small thing ah,especially after so much hope was attached to it .
And this was not some ordinary committee change also . Shweta Menon had taken charge as president and Cuckoo Parameswaran as general secretary,and many people saw it as historic because for first time women were holding such prominent positions inside AMMA . For Malayalam film industry,this looked like one progressive turn.
But their tenure lasted less than year . That one line itself says a lot about what may be happening inside this 32-year-old body . When Shweta Menon came in August 2025,the industry was already under heavy scrutiny after Hema Committee report and allegations around members . So expectations were high,but pressure was also clearly high .
And then Menon's statement about need to be a puppet to lead made whole situation even more uncomfortable . Because if woman president herself feels leadership means becoming puppet,then what exactly has changed inside organisation?

But tbh,this does not look like just one resignation drama . Recent controversies around AMMA,public disputes among members and police complaints against some officials have already damaged confidence badly . Many members seem to feel their concerns are not really represented properly.
And that elite club image is hurting AMMA more than maybe its leaders realise . If organisation meant for artistes starts looking distant from artistes themselves,then problem is not only about who is sitting in chair . It becomes about culture inside room .
But now ad-hoc committee has to prepare for next election and somehow change how people see AMMA . That is not easy because years of mistrust and old habits don't vanish with one committee shuffle only . Ramesh Pisharody-led team may have temporary control,but expectations from members and public will be heavy.
And bigger question is whether this shake-up will actually push AMMA to fix its internal issues,or whether Malayalam film industry will again move on after few weeks of noise…
