Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) is already under pressure,and now actors Mallika Sukumaran and Lakshmipriya announcing resignation has made whole issue even more serious.
This comes after Shwetha Menon,the first woman president of AMMA,stepped down on June 21, 2026 . Her resignation itself had created big noise because it happened amid rising tensions and allegations about how organization was being managed.
But after that,general body meeting in Kochi seems to have pushed things further . Members of executive committee faced no-confidence motion there,and that reportedly led to their decision to resign.
And tbh,this is where it starts feeling like not just one resignation,but full internal breakdown.
Reports say leadership was accused of failing to manage day-to-day affairs of organization and not handling internal disputes properly . For any artists’ body,this kind of open distrust from members is not small thing ah.
Few things standing out clearly in this whole AMMA mess:

At same time,Lakshmipriya,who earlier served as vice-president,rejected claims that executive committee failed to present proper financial statement at meeting . She said problem happened because prior committee had not finalized accounts,so comprehensive report could not be provided .
So now AMMA is stuck in one very uncomfortable position . On one side,resignations and no-confidence motion are raising questions about leadership . On other side,there are counter-claims about who actually failed in handling accounts and internal work.
And for Malayalam film industry,this is not just internal office drama only . AMMA represents many artists,so if members themselves are losing trust,then how will organization function smoothly going forward…
Now main question is,whether this crisis will force real change inside AMMA or whether same disputes will keep coming back in new form…
