Wow,what a match between Ghana and Panama in World Cup . That 95th minute goal by Caleb Yirenkyi was just incredible and completely changed the game for Ghana at Toronto Stadium.
And honestly, for most of match it looked like Panama was better team . They started with so much aggression, creating some really good chances early on.
Amir Murillo sent in one great low cross to Cecilio Waterman, but Ghana's goalkeeper Benjamin Asare made a fantastic save . Panama kept pushing and pushing but Ghana's defence was holding on somehow.
And tbh, this is where situation got very tense. As the game went on,it felt like it was heading for a 0-0 draw . Both sides had some moments, but nobody could score that opening goal.
But then came the final moments . Ghana launched a quick counter-attack,and Caleb Yirenkyi was suddenly free on the left side. He made a perfect run into the box and just tapped in cross from Brandon Thomas-Asante . Victory for Ghana, just like that.
The stadium just erupted after that goal . Fans were going crazy, and you can see why . That goal was his first ever for his country ah,not a small thing .
Few things standing out clearly in this match:
- Yirenkyi scored the winning goal in 95th minute after swift counter-attack.
- Panama's missed opportunities were many, they had several chances to score.
- Coach Carlos Queiroz achieved record by coaching at five consecutive World Cups.
And speaking of the coach,Carlos Queiroz is now the second coach ever to lead teams in five World Cups in row . His experience is clearly showing with this Ghana team .
You have to feel for Panama though . They played so well and came so close, only to lose in the last second and be denied their first point of the tournament. That must be heartbreaking .
So now Ghana has all the momentum in Group L,while Panama has to pick themselves up for their next match . How they will recover from a loss like this is big question…
