So Delhi Traffic Police has now put out official traffic advisory for 48th Shree Jagannath Rath Yatra happening in Hauz Khas area . And if you are planning to travel through South Delhi on July 16 afternoon, you really need to read this before stepping out .
The procession is being organized by Shri Nilachal Seva Sangh and will start from Shri Jagannath Temple in Hauz Khas Village at 2 PM on July 16 . Authorities are expecting massive turnout of devotees which will directly impact vehicular movement across large parts of South Delhi throughout afternoon hours.
Route of procession goes through Aurobindo Marg and things are expected to stay congested until around 6:30 PM . Not small window of time at all .
Three key things worth knowing right now:
- Traffic will be strictly regulated on both sides of IIT Flyover on Outer Ring Road and AIIMS Flyover loop on Ring Road.
- Restricted roads include Balbir Saxena Marg,Chaudhary Dilip Singh Marg and Gautam Nagar TOD.
- Alternative routes suggested are August Kranti Marg,JB Tito Marg and Africa Avenue to bypass event area .
Police have also put out specific guidance for people traveling from Gurugram or Mehrauli toward New Delhi . Motorists coming from MG Road side are being told to avoid Aurobindo Marg completely and instead use Outer Ring Road . For people traveling in opposite direction,Africa Avenue or JB Tito Marg are recommended options.
And honestly, parking situation is going to be strict too . Parking is prohibited along entire Rath Yatra route and surrounding lanes to keep things safe for thousands of participants expected on ground .
Delhi Traffic Police personnel will be stationed at key intersections managing vehicle flow until 7 PM . Officials have directly stated,"Commuters should plan their journeys in advance and consider using public transport to avoid delays." Metro travel is being strongly encouraged as most hassle-free option during yatra hours .
One group that really needs to plan extra carefully is people heading to hospitals or airport . Emergency vehicles and those with urgent medical or travel needs are specifically advised to factor in additional travel time because crowd density is expected to be very high across affected zones.
This is 48th edition of this yatra so it is not new event for Delhi . Organizers and police both have experience managing it . But scale of crowd and location in busy South Delhi means disruption to regular commuters is unavoidable no matter how well things are coordinated .
Whether advisory actually reaches people who need it most before they are already stuck somewhere on Aurobindo Marg at 4 PM on Wednesday… that part is always uncertain
